Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale – June 25, 2008
On view June 17th-25th at Sotheby’s London – Bond Street
The highlight of this sale is Gino Severini’s Danseuse (1915), which was exhibited in Paris in 1916 and later acquired by the Guggenheim Museum in New York. With an estimate of £7,000,000 -10,000,000, this work may set a record for Severini, whose work is not commonly for sale at auction (a similar work of his was last sold in 1990).
Helena Newman, vice chairman of Impressionist and Modern Art at Sotheby’s London said of this work: “We’re marketing this painting as a classic modern masterpiece, not as an Italian Futurist painting.”
